Jayden & Olivia

Longwood Gardens set the perfect scene for these sweet little lady explorers to have some fun on a cold winter day. Children change the game when it comes to portrait photography, because their expressions just tell it all. Their eyes and smiles are so truthful in every way, and it’s such an amazing thing to tap into that realness. Jayden and Olivia were as colorful as the flowers surrounding them, full of happiness, sassiness and surprises. Here’s a couple highlights from our day together. Kids are the absolute best. 🙂

Ellen & Matt – The Wedding! Part II

Remember Ellen and Matt? This wedding was so beautiful and so much fun. Stylish, simple, and elegant. Nicole Miller, Manolo’s, diamonds and pearls, suspenders, tuxedo’s, and black bow ties.  How could anyone forget – their wedding was simply gorgeous. I wanted to post some additional favorites from their reception, because, well the images speak for themselves.  Talk about a good time! Ellen, Matt and all of their family and friends were so expressive, fun, and exciting to photograph. In addition to the bride herself, more than one person had mentioned to me later that it was one of the best nights of their life. That’s what I’m talking about! I loved every single minute, and simply put, I absolutely love my job.

Jenny & Greg’s West Virgina Wedding

I really like my clients. Have I ever mentioned that? I mean, I really do, and it makes everything  so great. It’s so much fun to experience all the different types of ways people celebrate their wedding day. A unique story becomes their own unique celebration as they start their lives together as husband and wife. Yay!

 

Jenny and Greg got married in the beautiful rolling hills of Alpine Lake, West Virginia. During the entire car ride down, I couldn’t stop singing, “country road, take me home…to the place I belong!” I’m pretty sure the people in my car had just about enough, but I couldn’t help it…it’s so pretty down there…. (and a great song!) And when it came on during the Mother/Son dance, everyone at the wedding broke out into unified chorus, myself included.  So much fun. Jenny and Greg gave me lots of time to run around the grounds with them and capture some amazing shots, which I love them for! The sun came out, and aside from Jenny and her Dad getting stuck out on the Lake for the grand entrance of “walking down the aisle,” or more like, ” scootering across the lake,” the day just opened up for us, and was absolutely breath-taking.

 

The friends, family, colors, food, music and dancing all contributed to some serious fun. The party just couldn’t be stopped! I’m pretty sure the DJ announced that it was the last song at least 3 times, and then would hit up some throwback from the late 90’s would get that, Oh My God – yes (!) reaction from the crowd. Good times. Great people.

Ellen & Matt – The Wedding! (Part 1)

Most blogs keep you up to date with the current work that is happening, as it happens…but as I get the ball rollin, there is so much that I’ve shot in the past year that I’m excited to share, I might have to work backwards for a little bit. I’m going to start with my most recent wedding of 2012 and continue to post some of my favorite moments and stories from this wedding season.

Ellen & Matt.
As the months, weeks and days approached to Ellen & Matt’s wedding, I was like a kid the night before Christmas. Combine two amazing people, surround them by equally amazing family and friends, and you’d be excited too! I absolutely couldn’t wait. From the suspenders and bow ties to the Manolo’s and lace… every detail, every part of their day was pretty incredible. I often say I wish I could ride my bike to my weddings, (and I sometimes have) but with the gorgeous St. Agatha & James Cathedral only 4 blocks away from my house, and Penn’s campus across the street, I was on my own turf. I had my talented friend Russ by my side, and, well…it was just a really, really great time. There was a lot of high-fiving.
For me, it was one of those days I will always remember in my career.  At some point during the day, one of the bridesmaids pulled me aside, and as we both talked excitedly about how great the day was, she said to me, “You were born to do this!” I feel that way at every wedding, but to hear it out loud from someone else was pretty awesome.

My story.

Hello hello!
Welcome to my blog! This is where I’ll begin to finally share the stories about the images I create, so my first post will share my story.
Becoming a wedding and portrait photographer happened very naturally. As photography kept presenting itself in my life, it lead me on a journey to learn more about myself, and over the years I began to embrace the role it would play. Ten years ago, I spent a summer photographing families and children on the beaches of Ocean City, Maryland. With the sunshine on my side and some extra enthusiasm, I learned that my best qualities came out when I was photographing people. It was those moments with new families and friends that I felt most fulfilled.
When I moved to England, and traveled through Europe for the first time, I had the opportunity to connect with even more amazing people. This opened up my world. A couple years later I was again pulled toward a new cultural experience when I decided to volunteer in South America. I worked with an incredible program called Fairmail, teaching photography to under-privileged teenagers in Peru. What I wanted to impart to these teenagers was that they focus on how to approach people and how to connect with them…my ingredients to success.
I’m told that my energy and enthusiasm for my work makes my clients feel good about our time together, which ends up creating really great images. This makes me so happy, and I’m the first one to express that joy when I glance at the back of my camera. It is my passion as a photographer to uncover the beauty of real people and raw, true moments. Sometimes, these moments are seen by all, and sometimes they are in small and intimate settings. I care about people, and enjoy celebrating who they are and who they will become. I’m always excited to have the opportunity to tell a new story.
I’ll end this message with one of my favorite quotes from a great yoga teacher that has really hit home for me this year. ‘You are engineered and designed perfectly for your unique mission in life. You have been given just the right set of skills, placed into the proper circumstance, and graced with the appropriate challenges needed, for you to learn the lessons that will help you to succeed. When you are living with purpose, life burns that much brighter.’
