A Christmas Proposal – Ryan & Meghan

Posted on January 2, 2015

My heart was beating so fast as I kept looking toward the South entrance to city hall. With two huge lenses hanging from my side, I clearly had a purpose, but somehow kept getting in the way of all the folks trying to take their yearly selfies and portraits in front of the Christmas Tree. Another text……they were parked and now walking! I had my perfect shot all set-up, but a large group of tourists happen to step into my composition as Ryan and Meghan stepped through the South entrance to City Hall. They were SO cute. I suggested he take some deep breaths, chat a little while I move around upon their arrival. Ryan told me he had asked Meghan’s parents for permission…

Amber & Bart’s wedding was an amazing, inspirational day in the land of wedding photography. Just look at those faces. JOY I TELL YOU! That’s what it’s all about. The weather, the details, the friends, the family, the food, the venue, the band, and everything that they picked out was so incredible. Not to mention the fun, gorgeous couple that made it all happen. Their wedding day was filled with love, joy, sunshine, happiness, dancing and COLOR! So colorful! From Amber’s fuchsia orchid and orange lily bouquet, to the amazing up lighting at the Kimmel Center, to the lush green streets and urban murals that became our backdrop in this beautiful city. We shot their first look on the roof of the Double Tree Hotel, directly across from where they would later exchange vows and throw down a ridiculously awesome party.
They gave me full creative freedom in the hour 1/2 we had set aside for portraits to take them on walking route through Philadelphia that was sprinkled with some lovely little spaces of light and color that I was hoping we’d get to shoot in. Everything worked out wonderfully, and we ended the portrait session at a mural I had picked out for the Bridal Party Photos, which is probably one of my favorite bridal party shots ever. After a heart-felt exchange of vows and first kiss at the Epic Kimmel Center, Bart shattered the glass ceiling of awesome when he broke into the classic Italian love song ” That’s Amore.” He had mentioned to me that he was going to sing to Amber, so I would know to look out for it…. although I had no idea what to expect. Right on cue, he looked at Amber, then looked at the crowd, opened up his 6 foot 4 inch wingspan, and belted out, “When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s amoreeeeee. ” Ohhhh my Lord – it was AMAZING! Amber’s expression is priceless, and EVERYONE began singing along, beaming ear to ear with happiness and song. Now that’s a way to throw a wedding! The party rocked all night with an impressive performance from their band, Brian Kirk & the Jirks. <—- Amazing. Amber & Bart wanted to make sure we captured the grandness of the Kimmel Center, and I think when we stepped out at the end of the night to get a couple portraits, we did just that. 🙂
Enjoy!!

Kristianna & Brendan

Posted on September 16, 2014

Talk about a fun couple! Take a look. It all took place in Long Beach Island, NJ where Kristianna & Brendan met many summers ago and fell in love. LBI has a special place in my heart since it’s not only one of my favorite beach towns, but it’s where I shot my first wedding, and fell completely in love with wedding photography. Kristianna & Brendan’s day brought back fond memories of being barefoot on the beach, and running after a joyful couple riding bikes in the sun. Ahhhhhhh, my type of day! I met Kristianna after photographing her sister, Kourtney’s wedding back in 2010. Their family was so lovely to work with, and I had been looking forward to our reunion!! I love…

Lordy Lordy! It’s been a busy summer. Along with 984698749824 other photos I’d still like to blog, I forgot to post some great sneak peeks of some of the weddings I’ve had the pleasure of shooting recently. With hopes to tell the full story for each of these lovely couples, here are some wonderful moments from June, July & August so far in the land of wedding photography.     Kara & Nick – June 21st, 2014 : A romantic, beautiful day with some long time friends on a gorgeous summer solstice. Patricia & Matt – July 19th, 2014 : All smiles for each other all day long… these two. 🙂    Andressa & Matt – July 26th, 2014 : I got to shoot…

Megan & Alex

Megan & Alex might be one of the most smiley, natural, laid back couples I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. Take a look, and tell me that joy and happiness isn’t written all over this amazing day. They had so many special, personalized details that contributed to the combination of Irish Catholic and Chinese wedding celebrations. We met up for their first look at Washington Square Park, where Megan stopped a little girl in her tracks (or on her scooter) to come over and gush at what I’m sure she thought was a real live princess. She couldn’t help but reach out for a hug from such a pretty lady. 🙂 One of my favorite parts of the day, was that Megan & Alex decided to walk down the aisle together. Best friends, and already 10 years partners in life- they were going to take this next step and long walk down the aisle of Saint Rita of Casia Shrine Chapel hand in hand as they approached the beautiful alter. It was perfect. We then ventured to FDR Park, and then onto a very South Philly celebration at Growlers Pub. Tecate’s in hand they they danced in the street, seeing neighbors and friends who happened to be passing by. It was wonderful day, all very close to home for this couple who I am so happy to call my friends.

Ben & Marie

To find the one that compliments you, that loves what you love, that wants to walk alongside you in life. And climb rocks.
Ben & Marie are an incredibly active couple. Besides climbing, they are bikers, runners and avid and amazing ultimate frisbee champions. Capturing the essence of my couples is always my goal, but it gets tricky sometimes…although I’m always willing to go to great lengths to do it.  We actually hadn’t solidified all the plans, but when they both got out their climbing shoes at the base of the trail to Forbidden Drive in the Wissahickon woods in Philadelphia, I knew we were off to a good start. Ben & Marie are both from Philadelphia area, so shooting in a place that they love and have spent time rolling over the trail or bouldering the rocks was a great choice, not to mention absolutely beautiful.
These two are such a great match, and I’m so excited to be shooting their wedding in two weeks at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. It’s only fitting that people who love to climb rocks would want to throw a big party with the dinosaurs.

Emily & Clay

Posted on September 2, 2013

This post goes out to a very special couple. Emily and Clay are the kind of pair you just love to be around. Their fun, active, healthy, love of the outdoors lifestyle is infectious, and I told them that right from the start. “Let’s be friends!” We had an amazing time shooting their engagement photos all over the city. Then when it came time to capture their wedding, it was one of those days that was so special, so down to earth – maybe because everyone was wearing hiking boots, or maybe just because you were witnessing the real thing. Real love. Real People. They got ready in their center city home in different parts of the house. I would run back and forth…

Kate & Oliver

Kate and Oliver just celebrated their one year anniversary, and I couldn’t be happier for them! They just bought a house, and are still the absolute cutest thing ever. I would know since I just ran into them the other week – or more like they spotted me! I was dancing on the balcony of an abandoned parking garage on Broad Street to Philly Bloco, a super fun Brazilian band during the International Festival of the Arts. True story! I was so excited to see them! It makes me so happy to see my clients out and about in Philly, being cute, enjoying life, and getting a kick out of me enjoying mine! I had climbed up there with a group of friends since from what I could tell – it was the best view to see the show. I suppose I’m always looking for the best position or perspective so that I can see what’s going on. And after all these years of being a short girl, that’s what I’ve always done…and it’s just one of those things that makes being a photographer that much more natural and fun.

As I’ve gone through these photos again, it just brings back lovely memories of their beautiful wedding day. Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia set the stage for an absolute perfect day, with pink and green sprinkled throughout the sun-filled afternoon. Kate had amazing details, and they are still some of my favorite to this day. I felt like I was shooting a wedding that was something out of Martha Stewart Living.  Their first look was full of anticipation and surprise, topped with excitement and emotion, which continued throughout the day, touching everyone’s hearts.

Pretty Pink Happiness. The end.
